It hosts performances by Latvian and world pop, theatre and ballet stars, celebrations, exhibitions, rallies, conferences, seminars, competitions and festivals. The following rooms can be used for holding various events: large concert hall (1058.50 m2) – 1070 seats small hall (269.80 m2) about 200 seats 1st floor foyer (777.4 m2) 2nd floor foyer (555.3 m2) On the second floor of the building is the largest stained glass window in Latvia, “Fire and Night”, created in 1971, conceived as the ideological center of the Palace. The authors of the stained glass are watercolourist and stained glass artist Egons Cesnieks and architect Andris Purviņš. The stained glass window “Fire and Night” was created based on the work of the same name by Janis Rainis, which is based on a new vision of Andrejs Pumpurs’ epic “Lāčplēsis”. A monumental stained glass work measuring twenty-two square meters is installed in the vestibule along the entire wall and illuminated with artificial lighting. This large-format composition is both a prologue and an epilogue to the performance of Lāčplēsis, Laimdot, Koknese, the Black Knight, Kangar and his troops. And Spidola, depicted in the center, is a symbol of freedom, striving upwards! The struggle between good and evil forces is shown through various images and actions. The Palace of Culture has become a cultural center and a favorite place to relax, it is open for visitors every day. The information center is open from 8:00 to 20:00. Sunday is a day off. The cafe of the Palace of Culture is open from 12:00 to 18:00. On concert days, the cafe is open longer."}
