On May 2, 2025, a festive atmosphere filled Daugavpils Culture Palace as “Daugavpils Kino” celebrated its 1-year anniversary.
The multimedia hall marked its first birthday with special film screenings and a variety of surprises. Over the course of the year, the cinema hall, which has 96 seats, has welcomed more than 37,500 visitors!
In her anniversary day address, Daugavpils Culture Palace Director Astrīda Leščinska emphasized to the audience:
“There are only 96 seats in the ‘Daugavpils Kino’ multimedia hall, yet in a year we’ve welcomed thousands of viewers. You – yes, you – are the ones who made this large number of visitors possible. Exactly one year ago, the first ‘Action!’ was called in this hall, and since then we have held over 250 screenings, showcasing Latvian, European, and world cinema.”
Over the past year, 840 screenings took place, including 85 premieres – meaning nearly every day someone here laughed, dreamed, cried, or empathized with the characters on screen.
Among the most-watched films was “Minecraft”, while children’s hearts were won by the Latvian animated film “Flow”.

The cinema’s project manager Aleksandrs Komarovs, shared: “We are proud that ‘Straume’ has become the most-watched animated film at ‘Daugavpils Kino,’ and we are delighted that both local residents and visitors appreciate not only high-quality cinema but also the atmosphere created with heart. ‘Straume’ is highly in demand through the School Bag program, and we receive schoolchildren from other cities, such as Krāslava, Preiļi, Jēkabpils, and of course, students from local and Augšdaugava district schools regularly visit us.”
On the celebration day, visitors enjoyed film character cosplayers, free popcorn, colorful balloons, and the chance to take part in a photo contest by snapping a picture with one of the characters and posting it on Facebook. Guests also received a festive treat.
