Daddy Was a Milkman acoustic concert tour Quite Something
Following sold-out concerts last spring, the velvet-voiced Daddy Was a Milkman and guitarist Gints Smukais embark on a new acoustic tour titled “Quite Something.” Set against the bloom of spring, these musical encounters will take place in four very special Latvian cities and concert venues — Cēsis, Daugavpils, Jūrmala, and Ventspils.
Tickets will be available via the Biļešu Serviss network starting at 12:00.
Daddy Was a Milkman (real name Ignas Pociūnas) and Latvian guitar virtuoso Gints Smukais continue their creative collaboration, which began after their first meeting in Riga.
“I was incredibly lucky to meet an exceptionally talented Latvian guitar magician — Gints Smukais — this winter,” says Ignas. He first heard Gints’ unique guitar style at the Palladium concert hall and was instantly captivated. Since then, the interplay between the two artists has evolved into intimate, melodic concert moments where emotional songwriting blends seamlessly with outstanding guitar mastery.
“I was incredibly fortunate to meet an exceptionally talented Latvian guitar virtuoso — Gints Smukais. To me, he is a true guitar magician. […] At the Palladium concert hall, I heard for the first time how uniquely he plays his music. I listened to all of his rehearsals without taking my eyes off him — I was mesmerized,” shares Daddy Was a Milkman.
The idea of performing his songs in an acoustic format had been on his mind for a long time, but he lacked a guitarist capable of captivating an audience for several hours with just one instrument. “Gints can do it — and he does it brilliantly! We discussed the idea of playing together, and it didn’t take long […]” Ignas recalls about the beginning of their collaboration.
Gints Smukais describes their first encounter as follows:
“Through conversation, we quickly realized that we share very similar views on the process of creating music and the magic of performing it — and, of course, we both really love guitars! He [Daddy Was a Milkman] had long had the idea of creating a concert in a duo format with guitar. When he heard me play, he took it as a sign that the time was right to bring this vision to life […]!”
Audiences can expect songs from Daddy Was a Milkman’s album “Quite Something,” released in mid-2024, beloved tracks such as “Breath In,” “This Is How I Feel,” and “Sleeping Alone,” as well as special versions of songs arranged by Gints Smukais.
