On 1 July at 5:00 p.m., the opening of Liene Gusta’s large-format oil painting exhibition Where the Earth Resounds will take place at the Daugavpils Palace of Culture. The exhibition invites visitors to experience the strength, elegance, and spirit of freedom embodied by horses.

In cooperation with artist Liene Gusta, the BUTS Training Centre has created this travelling exhibition to share the artistic experience with audiences throughout Latvia. Following the success of the cat painting exhibition, visitors in Daugavpils will now have the opportunity to discover the world of horses—animals that have long symbolized movement, endurance, courage, and harmony.

The exhibition features twelve large-format horse portraits and a special artwork in which the horse imagery is complemented by the owl, a timeless symbol of wisdom. These paintings were created as part of the BUTS 2026 calendar collection, whose central theme is the horse as an embodiment of strength and perseverance.

Liene Gusta holds a Master’s degree from the Art Academy of Latvia. Nature and animals play a significant role in her artistic work. Her paintings are distinguished by their realism, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to reveal the unique character of each animal. Over the years, the artist has created works depicting wild birds, forest animals, cats, and horses, allowing viewers to experience the closeness and extraordinary beauty of nature.

“The more I paint nature and animals, the greater satisfaction I feel when, after the final brushstrokes, the plants and animals in the painting seem to come alive—the eyelashes, whiskers, delicate feathers sparkling in the sunlight, or the intricate veins of a leaf,” says artist Liene Gusta.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to feel the energy and power of horses in motion and to reflect on the close bond between humans and nature. It is an invitation to pause amid the rush of everyday life and embrace the peace and inspiration that art can offer.
