On Friday, 23 January 2026, at 18:00, a concert “Winter Holidays” / Зімовыя святкі will take place at the Forštate Cultural Space of the National Cultures Centre (41a Vidzemes Street, hall).

In Belarusian culture, the festive and ritual calendar opens the winter cycle. It closely weaves together Christian traditions and folklore. In winter, peasants, observing customs, laid the foundation for the next abundant harvest and prosperity in the household, dedicating many songs, rituals, games, and foods to this purpose. The festive calendar begins with the Pilipova Fast. The main celebrations of the winter season are New Year and Christmas, as well as the Epiphany celebrations. The winter cycle concludes with Masļeņica and the farewell to winter.

The concert programme “Winter Holidays” will feature themed songs, dances, poems, and short miniatures reflecting celebration traditions in Belarusian culture.

The concert features Belarusian cultural amateur groups: the Belarusian folk song ensemble “Kupaļinka”, the dance ensemble “Ļanok”, the choral cappella “Spadčina”, the amateur theatre studio “Pauļinka”, the vocal-instrumental ensemble “Praļeski”, the children’s studio “Skārbnīca”, as well as soloists and poets.

Admission is free of charge.

The event is organised by the National Cultures Centre of the Daugavpils City Municipality institution Daugavpils Palace of Culture.

Please note that filming and photography will take place during the event for publicity and historical purposes.
